Fanzine > Webzine > Unzine
I’ve already told you that I like fanzines and webzines, well… almost everything that has an extension zine (in English, sure). I’ve visited two weeks ago the exhibition ‘Unzine’ which was actually the exhibitive part of the synonymous webzine designed by Rafaela Drazic.

Rafaela Drazic (c)
Unzine was her graduate project at the Academy of Fine Arts in Split, where she works as assistant at the Department of Visual Communication Design.
Unzine is readable in PDF, but what makes the whole thing pretty interesting is that combination of activism and visual arts, particularly design.

Trees by Delaware (c)
Rafaela Drazic is, undoubtedly, hooked up to the zines culture, but also manages to connect it pretty cool with illustrative aspect that makes the whole story being more adequate to the visual age and web based oriented readers.
The exhibition presents artworkz with a quite impressive list of artists and designers of younger generation, such as: Thomas Keeley (USA), Damien Poulain (UK), Deborah Sengl (AT), Hector de Gregorio (ES), Sarah Maple (UK), John Fekner (USA), Slang International (DE), Delaware (JP), Oliver Bishop (UK) and Drazic (CRO), too.

Exploitation by Thomas Keeley
Artwork by Thomas Keeley was certainly one of my favourite because of his ability to transform an object from industrial design into the social engaged art piece.
Drazic is deeply involved into socially responsible arts, but not just representing a designer being only interested in nice remodelling of different shapes…

Down The Primorse Path by Victoria Reynolds (c)
As webzine, Unzine is at the moment in Croatian only, hopefully we will witness the same stuff in some bilingual edition, and because Rafaela’s project certainly deserves broader public… in the same amount she has picked up amazing artists to collaborate with on Unzine…
‘I hope that for those that are feeling weary of design that it will make see feel that it is possible to do work that challenges people and tells the truth as you see it. And to those who know very little about design, it shows that it is not just a commercial activity but can play a vital role in culture and society.’

‘Making people aware is a first step to make them think and then make an action’
Rafaela Drazic
p.s. Yeah, yeah! I know, I haven’t told you anything about the new design of my blog… I was very satisfied with the previous theme, but all the time I was working on, I had a desire to make it more functional, more readable, more designish, more… more… intuitive! That’s the right word.
p.s.1. Visual changes on PCB doesn’t mean that I will start now to post short posts, or something… I’m aware that my posts are sometimes too long for digital media, or that my interviews are published integral… it’s because I’m not reading anymore interviews in any media that are heavily edited by editors… and they all look the same: one or 2 line max, then answer on 4, max 5 lines and that’s it. Basically, we are not reading what a particular person said, but what the editor has picked up as more provocative for the readers. Some people have a very good taste, some not… because on blogs there are no limits, so, let them speak… you can sense the atmosphere, and sometimes you can get some unique answers…
