I’m back! After short hiatus due to some private reasons, I’m ready to blog in more then three lines, dear readers. Here we have a short video interview with film maker and photographer Jana Debus made in the production of 25FPS International Festival for Experimental Film and Video.
Jana Debus made a short experimental film ‘Gregor Alexis’ in 2008. The film covers a story on her schizophrenic brother at the edges of genres, interlacing jointly with photography based frames, documentary elements. Gregor Alexis was recorded with 8mm camera.
Jana Debus is a German filmmaker. She has travelled the world while working for photographers such as Julian Broad, Elfie Semotan, Kayt Jones and Warren Du Preez. Until 2004 she lived in London, working on many photographic projects in London, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Havana, Brazil, Uruguay and Germany and portrayed among others Arthur Lee, Marshall Allen and The Sun Ra Orchestra in London.
In 2004 she began pursuing her filmmaking career and moved to Germany to study at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, where she studied among others with Valie Export and Matthias Mueller. Her films “Leonie Saint” and “Gregor Alexis” have both been recommended for the German short film prize 2008.
Gregor Alexis has been awarded with the “Grand Prix” at 25 FPS Zagreb, Croatia and the 1st price (VG-Bildkunst-Förderpreis) at the KunstfilmBiennale Cologne”. Her new film “Zueignung” (Dedication) was premiered by the 56th Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen Germany, where it had been selected for the German as well as the International Competition.
