Artservis workshops were initiated as the idea of socially engaged art that stepped out of the white box. To be precise, workshop did not completely abandoned art institutions cause they were taking place in museum or gallery space, but they absorbed street public within its frame. All of a sudden you had sacred art rooms filled with crowd that brought old clothes yearning after an art touch.
Our guest blogger Ivana will have a vibrant Autumn, fulfilled with textile and fibre art. After her successful participating and blogging on last year’s textile colony Balkan Fibre Art in Novi Sad, we have new exciting news to share with you.
During the Balkan Fibre Art Nena Skoko, also one of the main initiators of the whole event, made an intriguing work called ‘Seven Women’s Days’. On the first level it’s humoristic and provoking, but it also reveals some of the crucial elements in female nature – the period is not just a physical process, it also functions on psychological and emotional sphere.
Nena Skoko, Serbian contemporary artist, affronts cultural, political and social context with sharply humoristic and intriguing works that often challenge the spectrum of tolerance and modernity. When you see her embroidered sanitary towels or banknotes put across the artist’s face, well it can’t be just a shortage of canvas or paper.
