Pocket cinema: Born into Brothels

Documentary film Born into Brothels by Zana Briski and Ross Kaufmann about ‘the children of Red Light District’ in Calcutta  is rather known to the audience connected with fields of human rights and photography. This film was accepted widely and awarded internationally over last five years, but its topics – prostitution and poverty, remain unsolved and opened.

Akiko Sato: Shelter for the Feeling

‘Shelter for the Feeling’ is a space installation consisted of  sound, lace, fibre-glass bars, foam and canvas. It’s based on personal story of Japanese contemporary artist Akiko Sato exploring her life voyage and the history of Croatian tradition of lace-making.

With the assistance of ten lace-makers from the ‘Lace Makers Association Danica Brosiler’ from Lepoglava she created a portable lace tent that symbolizes home.

Maria Kheirkhah’s mute belly dance

I saw Maria Kheirkhah‘s artwork ‘Dancing in the Village’ (a part of the ‘Portraits of a belly dancer’ explorations) two days ago at the exhibition L(..)king at Others in Art pavilion.

It’s a two channel video, actually a documentation of her performance from 2006 when she was listening on her iPod belly dance music performing belly dance in front of the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London.
